About Cruisemaster ABS Enabled Hardware

Cruisemaster ABS Enabled systems use premium automotive grade/style technology in it's ABS hardware; differing from the hardware used in other systems on the market.

All new builds by Cruisemaster featuring electric drum brakes come standard as 'ABS Compatible'. This means the suspension arm will have a unique weld ring, ABS compatible Electric Backing Plate and ABS suitable drum. Additional hardware would be required to make compatible with an ABS system but the supplied hardware would not need to be changed.

When purchasing an 'Enabled' Cruisemaster Suspension System this kit comes complete will all the hardware required to connect to an ABS system. In addition to the base hardware this also includes; Tone Ring, Positioner and Wheel Speed Sensor.

Brake Drum:  The cast iron outer component of the electric brake assembly. Key features of the drums design is it's wear resistance and ability to absorbe and dissipate heat. The interior surface of the drum provides the friction interface against which the brake shoes press. The brake drum also houses the bearings, The relationship between bearings and a brake drum in a vehicle’s wheel assembly is crucial for the smooth operation and safety of the braking system.

Tone Ring:  A tone ring (also know as a Reluctor Ring) in an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) plays a crucial role in ensuring that the ABS functions correctly by providing vital speed-related data for each wheel of a vehicle. The Tone Ring is a notched or toothed ring made of metal, it is attached to the wheel hub, axle or brake rotor, depending on the design of the vehicle’s ABS.

Positioner:  The positioner is designed to secure the sensor in direct relation to the tone wheel, keeping the air gap consistent and sensor within it's operating tolerance.

Wheel Speed Sensor:  This is placed close to the tone ring and can detect the passing of the notches or teeth on the ring as the wheel turns. As the wheel turns, the teeth of the tone ring pass in front of the sensor. Each tooth induces a pulse in the sensor due to the change in the magnetic field. These pulses are converted into a digital signal that represents the wheel speed. The frequency of these pulses corresponds to the speed of the wheel; more pulses mean higher speed. This signal is sent to the ABS control module, where it is analysed and compared with the speeds of other wheels.

Electric Brake Backing Plate Assembly:  All current gen Cruisemaster backing plates are compatible with ABS Enabled hardware. Electric drum brake systems use a pair of brake shoes that press outward against the inside of the brake drum to create friction and slow the vehicle. These shoes are lined with friction material tailored for the expected load and usage conditions. When electricity is applied, these actuators generate a magnetic field that forces the brake shoes against the drum.

Adaptor Flylead:  Specifically designed to connect the ABS wheel speed sensor to the main wiring harness. This component is crucial in ensuring the proper transmission of speed data from the wheels to the ABS controller, which is essential for the accurate functioning of the Anti-lock Braking System.

Weld Ring:  Current gen Cruisemaster stub axles come standard with a specially designed weld ring that allows the required spacing for components to flow from the brake assembly through to the suspension arm.

ABS Enabled

All Cruisemaster Suspension Systems are now compatible with Bosch TSC. The TSC's integration of ABS and ESC provides superior ride quality and safety.
